AMASE - Day 7 - Glacier Hike


After a day of running samples in the lab, we got another change to get out. This time we hiked to the glacier to sample snow algae in the red circle. The day before our hike a polar bear had been seen in the area, so we were with a small group of 9 people and 2 guns. Four people  (including myself) were constantly looking around for any sign of polar bear activity, the other five were staring at the ground looking at rocks, lichens, moss and algae, and most likely would not even have noticed a polar right in front of their noses. 

After about an hour and a half we reached the glacier:
